Ingredients

  • Sushi rice (cooked and seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt)
  • Nori seaweed sheets
  • Assorted fillings (e.g., raw or cooked fish, vegetables, avocado, crab sticks)
  • Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving

Time

Preperation: Approximately 15 minutes

Steps

  1. Prepare the sushi rice by cooking it according to the package instructions. Once cooked, season the rice with a mixture of rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, following the recommended proportions or to taste. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
  2. Lay a bamboo sushi rolling mat on a flat surface. Place a sheet of nori seaweed on top of the mat.
  3. Wet your hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking. Take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top edge of the nori.
  4. Arrange your desired fillings in a line across the center of the rice. Be creative and use a variety of ingredients to add flavor and texture to your sushi rolls.
  5. Using the bamboo mat, start rolling the sushi tightly from the bottom, applying gentle pressure to keep the ingredients in place. Roll it up until the nori seals the roll.
  6. With a sharp knife, slice the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces, about 6-8 pieces per roll.
  7. Repeat the process with the remaining nori sheets, rice, and fillings.
  8. Serve the sushi rolls with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side for dipping.

Enjoy the homemade sushi rolls as a delightful and customizable culinary experience.
