Ingredients
- Sushi rice (cooked and seasoned with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt)
- Nori seaweed sheets
- Assorted fillings (e.g., raw or cooked fish, vegetables, avocado, crab sticks)
- Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger for serving
Time
Preperation: Approximately 15 minutes
Steps
- Prepare the sushi rice by cooking it according to the package instructions. Once cooked, season the rice with a mixture of rice vinegar, sugar, and salt, following the recommended proportions or to taste. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
- Lay a bamboo sushi rolling mat on a flat surface. Place a sheet of nori seaweed on top of the mat.
- Wet your hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking. Take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top edge of the nori.
- Arrange your desired fillings in a line across the center of the rice. Be creative and use a variety of ingredients to add flavor and texture to your sushi rolls.
- Using the bamboo mat, start rolling the sushi tightly from the bottom, applying gentle pressure to keep the ingredients in place. Roll it up until the nori seals the roll.
- With a sharp knife, slice the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces, about 6-8 pieces per roll.
- Repeat the process with the remaining nori sheets, rice, and fillings.
- Serve the sushi rolls with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side for dipping.
Enjoy the homemade sushi rolls as a delightful and customizable culinary experience.
